Kirkland Summerfest: Event Session

Kirkland in the summer is a little slice of heaven on earth. Marina Park’s waterfront is a gathering ground for all kinds of community members. Whether enjoying the live music and beer garden or frolicking on the sand or in the water, there’s a little something for everyone. This is especially true during community events, usually hosted by the Kirkland Downtown Association.

When I first moved to town in 2015, I knew one of the best ways to meet friends was to get plugged into the community. After seeing signs at various intersections advertising Kirkland Summerfest, I searched online for more information. I quickly learned there were many volunteer opportunities. So, I found a role that sounded fun (kids area) and walked downtown for my shift (with a light jacket on… in August… did I mention Northwest summers rock?). I’m so glad I decided to volunteer my time that evening because I met a great friend, Julie. Meeting Julie opened the door for friendship and more volunteer opportunities (like Kirkland Oktoberfest).

This community is made up of so many amazing people who put on events the entire city can enjoy. This is one of my favorite parts about living here.

But back to Summerfest. This year the committee asked me to photograph the festival on Friday afternoon. It was so much fun to observe and capture the fun. I especially enjoyed meeting parents of adorable babies/kids who let me snap some portraits on this gorgeous August evening.

If you're in the area, be sure to come out for the Kirkland Summerfest fun next August!
